3.5 Stars!
Broken Dreams is the story of Samuel, Darren and Dailon. Samuel Tolliver is a half-Sprite half-Wolf with a bit of a wild and bratty streak. Darren is his human best friend that seems to be the only one who can semi-rein him in. Professor Dailon Walker is a Sandman but doesn’t know it yet, although he knows he’s definitely something. Darren has been trying to get his life and career together all while fighting his attraction to Samuel. But Samuel seems to be going off the rails even more now that Darren’s focus is not entirely on him. When he meets Dailon he is naturally drawn to him as is Darren. The three men quickly discover a bond between them and can’t resist.
For me, the suspense surrounding Dailon’s true nature was the most intriguing part of the story. The relationship between the three men didn’t quite capture me as much as I hoped. Truth be told, I wasn’t a fan of Samuel, he was too immature and bratty for my tastes. Dailon, too, wasn’t my favorite, something about his presumption of being in charge of Samuel before he’d even introduced himself rubbed me the wrong way. The dynamic just felt forced to me although it was more believable since it can be explained by the mate bond.
Darren was the most likable character for me. I just felt that connection with him from the beginning and could understand his insecurities and his fears about his role as the Coimeádaí of a Sandman. He was great though with both men and he seemed much more sincere. It was easy to see why he had a connection to each of the other men and why they needed him.
There was plenty of sex with a little kink thrown in to make it even steamier. So if that’s your favorite part you won’t be disappointed. There are some twists woven through the latter half as well as some unanswered questions we are left with. Overall, the story was good, however, it’s not my favorite in the series.
