Always (Single Dads 4)
Release – March 29th, 2021
Lives change in an instant, but with family found and forever love, there is always hope.
Impetuously putting his life on the line, Adam saved a child trapped in a car wreck and suffered career-ending injuries. Living with chronic pain, and at his lowest moments, he had friends who wouldn’t let him give up, a family who had his back, and even though his future was different from what he’d always planned, he at least had hope. When Cameron and Finn land on his doorstep, he never dreamed that he would fall in love with the small family or that maybe he’d get to be a hero again.
Cameron goes from being a devoted husband to a single dad overnight. With his neatly planned future in ruins, he will do anything to make a new life for his son, even if it means moving to the other side of the country. Renting a room from Adam is the first step in making a home for him and Sam, but falling for the former firefighter was never part of the plan.
The shadows from Cameron’s past might take a long time to touch this fragile future, but will he have to face the consequences alone when they do? Or will there always be hope?

I feel like this is going to be a short review, because, really, all you need to know is that this is an emotionally satisfying story about two slightly broken but gorgeous guys who deserve and find happiness with each other. You should absolutely buy it and read it.
This is actually the fourth in the Single Dads series; while previous characters may reappear, you can absolutely read this as a stand-alone. There is slightly more drama and tension in this, as Cam and his son Finn are fleeing a difficult situation and desperately trying to find a fresh start away from the public eye. Cam is definitely suffering emotionally, but there is both a strength and fragility about him. He finds a new home, on the other side of the country, through his best friend Nick, who gets him a room in Adam’s house (this is the link with previous books). Adam was a firefighter but is now retired; recuperating after being severely injured in a fire.
What we have is quiet moments where love and romance starts to blossom between moments of drama where both of their pasts intrude into their lives; Adam, in his physical recovery, and Cam in people he is trying to escape. It’s particularly touching as Finn starts to learn to trust friendship and gradually is able to become a child again.
RJ Scott writes beautiful stories full of heart and emotion with the right balance of heat for the characters that we cannot help but care for. This is a great addition to the series that’s absolutely a must read for those already invested in the series. For everyone else, if you don’t want to go back and start at the beginning, you should definitely at least include this in your must read list.

Always is the 4th book in the Single Dad series written by R.J. Scott
Cameron moves to New York, as a single father, with the love of his life. While there, he is alienated from his closest friends. He is alone. After his husband embezzles thousands of dollars and murders someone, he is left alone. Once again a single father, he is scared for his son’s life. He moves back home and into a strangers house. He needs to find a job fast; he doesn’t plan to stay long to keep the press off his trail but he finds new love. Adam, a young firefighter, attempts to save a child, while he does, he almost loses his life and does lose his career. All he ever wanted to be is a firefighter. He can’t stand very long and has excruciating headaches that leave him bed bound for days. When Cameron and his son move in, Adam just wants to fill his big house and keep himself busy but what he finds, instead, can change his life.
Adam was so sweet. He connected with Cameron and Finn (Cameron’s son) fast, and adapted his house for them. He falls for both of them. I love how he included Finn in his activities and humoured him. Cameron fell for Adam as fast as Adam fell for him—which was sweet—and they work very well together as a couple. He doesn’t treat Adam with kid gloves, despite his injuries, and he fits into Adam’s big family.
I really liked this book. It was an easy read, and I read it in a single sitting. I was sad to see it end, but I did want them to have their happy ever after. The characters deserved it. I am also super excited for the next book. We hear a lot about Nick in this book, and he also deserves a happily ever after.
