Synopsis

Can my best friend get me to enjoy the holidays? Ho… Ho… Um… No?

Christmas just isn’t my jam. The crowds. The cold. That Mariah Carey song blasting everywhere I go. Thanks, but no thanks.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m no Grinch. The holidays are awesome if you have a great family and money to shower them with gifts. Unfortunately for me, I have neither of those things.

All I want for Christmas (great, now I’m quoting that damn Mariah song) is to focus on my internship at the Vet Shop Boys clinic and hanging out with my best friend and roommate.

Turns out Chester has got other ideas. Along with a crew of loved-up vets, he’s on a mission to get me to enjoy the holidays and fall in love with him.

Wait… What?!

There’s no way I’ll ever become one of those festive people who likes Christmas, but who knows? Maybe this will be the first holiday season that actually gets me merry?

Got Me Merry is book 6 in the Vet Shop Boys series and can be read as a stand-alone. Expect plenty of humor, found family, best-friends-to-lovers, a grumpy Christmas Grinch, a sunshiny Christmas lover, some very wacky Christmas traditions, a sizzling hot fun run on a freezing winter day, a two-legged dog with a heart of gold, meddling vets determined to add a sprinkling of love to the holidays, and a heartwarming happily ever after!

5 Stars

This was a cute and fun holiday read. It is a goofy grinning kind of story. It’s everything you are looking for in a holiday romance–great characters, an easy, feel-good storyline, light humor, holiday cheer, goofy elements, and a HEA. That’s a long list, but they usually go hand and hand.
Chester and Lawson have a lot of chemistry but are both very oblivious to the fact that the other is feeling the same thing they are. I wanna say–communicate!–but this is one of those stories I just don’t mind it. I love the obliviousness in a holiday romance.
I own the series but haven’t had a chance to read it, but this caught my fancy and I knew it needed to be read for the holidays. I am now dying to go back and read the other stories. I enjoy this author’s storytelling and easy writing. Last, but not least, he used my absolute favorite word–gobsmacked! This book is going in my holiday AND gobsmacked collections of books.
This is a holiday must-read if you ask me.

Got Me Merry by Casey Cox is book 6 in the Vet Shop Boy series. This is a grumpy/sunshine, best friends-to-lovers contemporary romance. While it can be read as a standalone, I’d recommend reading the rest of the story at some point.
Best friends and roommates Chester and Lawson met at veterinarian school. They’re coming up on their final year and interview for the same paid internship at the Veterinarian office. During the interview, they basically wax poetic about the other to the owner, Gus. He decides to take both on because of their dedication to animals and each other. He sees what they can’t just yet.
Chester is sunshine and candy canes. His secret crush on his best friend is almost as large as his love for Christmas. All he wants this year is for Lawson to experience the joy of the holiday too. He comes up with a plan and gets the other guys at the Vet office in on it too. “Operation Got Me Merry” commences, and it’s just what everyone needs to get in the holiday spirit.
Lawson is grumpy and jaded. He grew up in a less-than-happy situation. Two separate homes and both seemed to have forgotten him. His defenses are high. The only one to break through them is Chester. Their relationship was definitely inevitable. It just took him a little bit to see what was right in front of his face.
My favorite part of this book was the found family aspect. The Vet Shop Boys are the perfect example of that, and the way they helped Chester make Lawson fall in love with Christmas was heartwarming. It was really nice seeing what all the guys have been up to.
This is the very definition of a holiday romance. It’s got all the goods. I definitely recommend this book and series to everyone.

4.5 Stars

This is a Christmas novella in the Vet Shop Boys series and works as a stand-alone plot-wise, but I guess you’d enjoy it more if you knew the history of all the meddling Vet couples.

It’s a sort of double bluff–Chester thinks he’s trying to get his best friend to fall in love with Christmas with the help of the Vets, while the vets are actually trying to get Chester and Lawson to realise they’re in love. There are lots of side glances and looks as they and we know they can’t see what’s going on.

Chester and Lawson are opposites in that Lawson’s past is not great, and Chester is just a happy soul who wants the best for his cynical best friend. However, what is clear from the start is that they are each other’s person. It’s a fun, light-hearted read as the guys lay on Christmas events to woo Lawson to Christmas and get the guys together; just what you want from a Christmas novella. The two MCs are so sweet, and I enjoyed seeing them get their HEA.

Well worth the read for a little fun Christmas escapism.
