My Only Defense is book 3 in the series, and while it can be read as a standalone (which I did), I suspect you’ll enjoy it more if you read it in order.

I liked Gare and Lawson, but I found it difficult to fully connect with them. Same as with the secondary characters, which were introduced in the previous books, which is totally my fault I know.

Still, the story was intriguing and entertaining and I’m sure fans of the series will love it.
