This book is my favorite of the series so far. Daire has always been standoffish and on the periphery in all the other books, and I’ve been seriously intrigued by what his story was. Gavin is sort of part of the group, but since he’s younger than the rest and Van’s brother, they tend to treat him with kid gloves. Gavin and Daire’s story definitely has the grumpy/sunshine feel to it, and I loved getting to know both of them better.

Always snarky, Daire keeps to himself, but having Gavin move into his guest room might have been a miscalculation. I loved that Daire stood up for Gavin, even if he didn’t listen to what Gavin wanted at the time. I liked that Gavin managed to surprise Daire throughout the book. Daire needed to see Gavin as more than a kid before he could accept what he was feeling. I am glad that Gavin was able to learn things about Diare in a way that Daire couldn’t hide from. Daire needed someone to see him and accept him as he was. I loved that Gavin slowly proved that Daire could trust him to stay and that Daire was good enough for him. I loved that Gavin suggested a route for Daire to use his skills in a better way.

There was one part of the book that I wasn’t a total fan of. I admit I really didn’t like Gavin’s ex, and I’m still not sure why he and his friends felt the need to do what they did, but the consequences were a lot. Once Van and East knew what they had been doing to Gavin, the retribution was swift and way over the top. Seriously, they got away with more than they should have. While I don’t feel bad for Joey, I felt this part of the book harkened back to the first book feel when the Princes got away with anything and everything, which I haven’t been thrilled with. That being said, I really enjoyed getting to know Daire and seeing these two make their way together. It was a fun story with a lot of push and pull and great chemistry.
