New Release Review ~ The Fireman and the Flirt (Single Dads Club #4) by A.J. Truman

The Fireman and the Flirt (Single Dads Club Book 4)

Is it in bad taste to sleep with a client? Asking for a friend…

In high school, Derek ruled the school with his fellow hockey players, while I fantasized from afar. He only knew me as his little brother’s shy friend who, thanks to one vicious rumor from a former flame, had garnered a reputation as the school freak.

Twenty years later, I’m a successful real estate agent who’s put my embarrassing past behind me and smartly stayed away from love. I have things under control…until Derek suddenly returns to Sourwood sans wedding ring, and in dire need of a house for him and his daughter.

Clinching this sale will cement my hard-earned status as a top agent and distance me from my embarrassing past. If only I can stop shamelessly flirting with my new client. If only I can stop dreaming about him bending me over newly updated marble countertops and stainless steel appliances. Old habits die hard.

Soon though, my fantasy version of Derek fades away as I learn the truth about his return. Maybe I can get him to no longer see me as his little brother’s weird friend. Maybe he can get me to let down my guard and trust a guy again.

Or maybe those dreams are as unrealistic as the housing budget for a couple on House Hunters.

The Fireman and the Flirt is the fourth book in the Single Dads Club series, but can be read as a standalone. It will give you all the brother’s best friend, businessman/client, nerd/jock vibes you can handle without charging a commission.

A sweet story from A Single Dad’s Club Series that can be read as a standalone. It was low in angst, and there was a nice progression from friendly to more.
Derek is a widower who has returned to his hometown of Sourwood. After the passing of his wife, though their marriage was far from ideal, he is determined to protect his teen daughter and is quite stoic. Staying with his brother is getting to be a bit much, so he seeks out a realtor.
Cary, who has risen in his company as a hotshot realtor, has mixed feelings about taking Derek on as a client. He had a massive crush on him as a teenager, and age has improved this man. Cary was the laughing stock of a cruel, untrue rumor that has stuck to him even after 20 years. This earned him the reputation of being weird, even though he is a successful professional in his field.
Both men carry scars from their massive hurts, but Cary’s distrust goes deeper. He is hysterically funny at times and his personality is perfect for the more serious Derek. Can buying a house help forge a deeper relationship that the two actually crave? This fun story is highly recommendable. Happy reading.

This is book 4 in a series but works fine on its own; previous couples are part of the supporting cast but their stories don’t impact this one. It’s an opposites attract, nerd/jock story with a bit of brother’s best friend thrown in it. It’s a sweet, easy read with two very likable characters that really work together.
As the blurb says, Derek has come with his daughter, to his hometown after the death of his wife. The complication is that she was going to leave him just before she died, but no one knows. Cary always had a crush on him; he thought Derek knew as he wrote a note, but as Derek never did anything, he filed it away as a” never gonna happen.” As they spend time together, Cary turns out to be the person who lifts Derek’s mood and who he can always talk to. He finds himself attracted to the bubbly, happy Cary; turns out he wasn’t completely straight, he just never did anything about it. The house visits together as they look for a home for Derek are funny and, soon, pretty sexy.
There’s not a lot of angst, just a little bit of a hiccup, but there’s never any doubt about where these two are heading. This doesn’t actually matter because it’s a warm, feel-good story that is just a warm, happy read.
A definite recommendation for something light and fun with great MCs who you’ll be drawn to.
